The Writing World

Welcome!

Here you will learn about the world I live in.  The world of a writer.  It's a place of distant, historical times and far away places.  It's about people, real and created: the Paper People.

The Paper People live in times far past or in fantastical worlds of the future, in great mansions or miserable hovels.  They ride in carriages or fly through space seeking to right the wrongs of the universe.

Each character I create for my books takes on a life of their own.  They have a history, a home, a family, friends and enemies, likes and dislikes.  They become people, as real to me as my own family.

As I follow them around in the story, writing down what they do and how they think, I am often surprised by their reactions to the situations in which they find themselves.  I don't know why I should be surprised; I put them in that situation.

I love being a writer.  I have always had stories in my head.  In my earliest story I was a princess with long flowing hair, riding a silver horse across a grassy plain.  I was invincible ... at five years old.

In high school I wrote my dreams and fears into my stories.  My characters -- people -- were both popular and nerds, leaders, followers and drop-outs.  They had triumphs and tragedies.  These stories, never shared, were the beginning of my love of writing.

My college papers were mini thesis.  When most of my classmates in English turned in five or six page papers, I turned in twenty-five.  I was always getting comments from my professors, "this is a great paper, but could you make it shorter?"  I tried, but failed miserably.  The people in the stories -- Macbeth, King Lear, Mid-Summer Night's Dream, Canterbury Tales -- were all so real.

After I got married I had some time on my hands and so started a short story.  Again, my characters took over and the short story became a book titled, If I Perish.  This book has now been published by Publish America
